Isildur1 Triumphs Over Jungleman12 In SuperStar Showdown

Viktor Blom, aka Isildur1, has dominated the nosebleed online poker tables for the last couple years, but many poker fans have forgotten just how good he is in light of his first unremarkable live tournament performances. Case in point, late last week Blom bombed out of the Day 2 competition for the EPT Deauville Main Event. The good news is that Isildur1 got a chance to redeem himself online when Daniel “jungleman12” Cates challenged him to a new SuperStar Showdown.

Despite the fact that Cates was also playing fresh from his participation at the Aussie Millions tournament, the match-up went down this weekend. Jungleman12 fans looking for the results might have trouble finding them under his usual screen name since Cates traded the “jungleman12” moniker in for his lesser known PokerStars persona “w00ki3z.” Cates paid the $150,000 entry fee in exchange for 2500 hands played at four $50/$100 tables.

When all was said and done, Isildur1 emerged victorious for the second time in a row, proving once again that he does at least one thing very well. Blom was double rewarded, pocketing $51,196 of Cates’ bankroll and simultaneously improving his SuperStar Showdown record. If you haven’t been following the challenge, then here’s a quick refresher…

Blom played his first SuperStar Showdown late last year after accepting a PokerStars sponsorship (but before his real identity was revealed). The first challenger was Isaac Haxton who ended the session about $42,000 up on Blom. After a brief break, Isildur1 was at it again, going head-to-head with notorious loudmouth Tony G. This time around Blom emerged victorious to the tune of $44,000.

Only a few months into the new challenge, it seems like everyone wants a piece of Isildur1. Not only is Tony G demanding a rematch, but fellow online pro David “Viffer” Peat wants to play Blom in a live heads-up match. And if last night’s chat box is to be taken seriously, you can add one more significant pro to the line of players waiting to take on Isildur1: Daniel Negreanu.

Negreanu was just one of many pros that were watching the match last night. When the session had wrapped, KidPoker even got the last few words. After congratulating both players, Negreanu requested that Blom send him an email, saying, “I have some questions about the rules.” Negreanu has already outlasted Blom at more than one live tournament, but can he beat him at his own game?
