Canadian Online Betting Websites

Canadians have always had plenty of freedom to play at betting sites, meaning that most casino sites are happy to have Canadians as real money customers. Occasionally, you’ll find a website that isn’t open to the Canadian market, but these situations are relatively rare, and not a major concern for Canadian gamblers. While there hasn’t been as much written on the subject in Canada when compared to the complex situation in the United States, there’s no law prohibiting Canadians from playing at casino sites, apparently making them entirely legal to play at. Certainly, for a long time, Canada didn’t allow online gambling companies to be owned and operated by Canadians (though some were licensed by Indian tribes), but simply playing on these sites has always been a different story.

Even that has changed in recent years, as provincial governments have begun to set up their own gambling sites that are regulated and taxed entirely inside Canada. These sites have already begun operation in Quebec and British Columbia; some other provinces are also expected to do the same, while others have said they are not interested.

This lack of government interference in the online gambling industry has made things much easier for Canadians than their American neighbors. For instance, while Americans struggle to find ways to move money to and from their accounts at most gambling sites, Canadians have a wide variety of deposit and withdrawal methods available to them. From e-wallet sites to direct bank transfers, just about anything goes for Canadian gamblers.

There’s another area in which Canadian gamblers have it easy, too – taxes. In the United States, gambling winnings are considered taxable income. Sure, the laws are a little different depending on whether you’re a professional or just someone who got lucky at a casino, but either way, the USA government is going to take their cut.

On the other hand, Canadian players rarely owe any taxes on gambling winnings. For instance, if you win a jackpot on a slot machine, it’s almost certain that you’ll be able to have that money entirely tax-free. However, there is an exception made for professional gamblers – those that make most or all of their money through gambling, and does so through the use of skill-based play. If you gamble for a living, you’ll be expected to report your winnings as income, just like with any other job.

Overall, the situation for Canadians who want to play at online casinos is pretty good at the moment. There doesn’t seem to be any reason to believe any new restrictions will be placed on online gambling in the near future, and if anything, the increase in licensed sites will just give players even more options for their gambling dollars. Whether your game of choice is poker, blackjack, roulette or craps – or really, anything else gambling related – you can be sure that there are plenty of sites out there happy to provide Canadians with opportunities to wager their money.
