FTOPS XIX Kicks Off On Super Bowl Sunday
The Full Tilt Online Poker Series, more commonly referred to as FTOPS, will be starting its 19th season tomorrow in conjunction with the NFL’s 45th Super Bowl. Coincidentally, the FTOPS XIX will incorporate 45 events and will run from February 6 through February 20. In addition to the considerable cash prizes, winners of each event will also win a coveted gold FTOPS jersey and can also use a gold jersey avatar when playing at future Full Tilt tables.
The Full Tilt Online Poker Series has grown considerably from season to season. For example, the very first series in 2006 had only eight events, and the last series held in November had 34 events. There’s something for everyone, too with buy-ins ranging from $100 + $9 for the rebuy events up to $10,000 + $300 for the NL Hold’em Heads Up Two-Day event. In addition to a whole slew of NL Hold’em events, there will also be Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 5 Card Draw, HORSE, 2-7 Single Draw, 7-Game, 7 Card Stud, Razz, 2-7 Triple Draw, HA, 9-Game, 10-Game, 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo and Badugi events in a wide variety of formats.
Every one of the FTOPS XIX events has a guaranteed prize pool attached and those range from $50,000 for the inaugural Badugi event up to $3,000,000 for the Main Event. Collectively, there’s at least $22 million in prize money up for grabs. As usual, Full Tilt is also using celebrity power to build hype by having each event hosted by one of their many notable pros. The celebrity host for Event #40, the $2,000,000 Guaranteed NL Hold’em 6max, has yet to be announced.
Some people are speculating that Full Tilt may use Event #40 to announce their signing of recent free agent Phil Hellmuth. Everyone knows that Hellmuth met with Full Tilt Poker last month, but no official news has been reported on whether or not he will join the FTP team. In the meantime, Hellmuth has been busy promoting himself at a number of this weekend’s high profile Super Bowl parties.
Full Tilt is also pushing the promotion of their new multi-entry feature by offering nine different multi-entry events at the FTOPS XIX. Players that can’t afford to buy-in even at the $100 level still have time to win their way in through a number of satellites and even through Full Tilt’s steps program. And if you miss a shot at the FTOPS XIX altogether, don’t forget you’ll get a second chance at a big cash with the next MiniFTOPS coming up in March.
